What is 'Affiliate Marketing?'

"Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own marketing efforts."

In other words, you get paid – if and only if – your marketing efforts are responsible for making a sale, which is where most people who get started down the road to affiliate marketing riches really mess things up.

They miss the MARKETING part of the equation by buying into all the hype of “easy money” and “overnight riches; Which do not exist, by the way.

At least not that I am aware of.

There are no one-click wonder programs that make you money
There are no secret techniques that always work
There are no shortcuts to building a profitable business online

But fear not! Because making money online is not that hard!

You need to learn how the business of Affiliate Marketing actually works and you can do this in one of 2 ways:

1) You can simply pick a product and try to market the hell out of it (one thing you will learn here is how to 'chase your tail') OR...

2) You can make the decision that "Yes I want to make great money selling other peoples' products and I am prepared to spend a little time and money to learn how to do this the right way - I am prepared to invest in my self and my future".

To do this look at the success stories out there. One such person is Patric Chan, who in 2003 decided to try option 1 and spent the next few years learning only by his mistakes. Nowadays he is a highly respected best selling author, public speaker, Entrepreneur and trainer (charging $10,000 a pop for training sessions). His Click Bank account goes up by the minute - yes that is a fact - and he's a multi millionaire.

For those of you that feel option 2 above sounds expensive and/or would take too much of your time my first advice to you would be DON'T TRY Affiliate Marketing, because if you're not prepared to put any kind of investment (especially the time) into it then it simply will not work for you. Affiliate marketing is THE BEST way (by a wide mile) to earn big money online provided you treat it as you would any other business you are starting:

Invest in it and thus yourself (start up cost)
Invest your time
Learn the right way to do things
Pick your products and product/market niche to sell (despite the rumors an eskimo won't often buy ice).

It requires SELF BELIEF - PATIENCE - TENACITY - THE MIND SET TO SUCCEED

By selling someone elses products you are limiting your risk to only the cost of your marketing and so by learning all of the ins and outs of how best to market any given product to any given niche. The vendor has the costs and risks of producing the product and he is happy to give you 50% of the sale (on average) to market it for him. It's a win - win set up which is why those affiliates that learn to do it right become six and seven figure earners with little effort.
