Wix! A User's Review

When you hear the name Wix, you immediately think FREE WEBSITE builder. And you'd be right; But there's so much more to it...

I have been a Wix user for 3 years or so now and I have had very few complaints. I use it for my main website (this blog is on Wix), landing pages, sales funnels, pop up forms and more.... I'll elaborate shortly, but first:

What is Wix?

Wix started life in 2006 and now has over 100 million users, a testament to it's quality and stability (important factors if you're using it for business as I do). It has gone through several changes over the years and now has evolved a very good, user friendly, drag and drop interface which anyone can get the hang of in a short space of time, but with enough flexibility for more advanced users.

There are many tools and 3rd party apps (free and paid versions) that give you a huge amount of flexibility when considering your website design. One of my ever used tools (Free) is the countdown clock for offers etc.

Is Wix really Free to use?

The short answer is YES! You can make a complete website using one of hundreds of templates and have it up and running absolutely free for as long as you wish. The Cons here are; You don't have a proper domain for your website or business using the free version, so it's immediately apparent that your website is courtesy of Wix - they also place small ad banners on top and bottom of pages on the free version, not a biggie but not 100% professional looking for your clients either.

I used it free for a short while whilst deciding if I wanted to use it permanently or go for something like Wordpress so the free version will give you that "testing it out" phase at your own pace, and when you're ready, you can upgrade to the one of the premium plans. They do more than one premium plan depending on your requirements. For instance there is an e-commerce plan, a hospitality type plan with booking requests facilities etc. You choose the best one for YOU. Price wise it is cheaper than most and has a very good Knowledge Base and support centre.

If you find that you are comfortable using Wix then it is best to upgrade as soon as you can and get your own domain name. They are a little cheeky if you order a domain through them and charge around $15 for your own domain name, a little high for a domain name nowadays but you do get completely automated installation so it's super easy.

Wix Main Features:

The Obvious and excellent main feature is the easy to use drag and drop interface and, for beginners, a HUGE range of great looking templates that have all the hard work pre-done for you (I started from scratch as I knew what I wanted so you can go either way). Other features include:

Password protected pages (for member pages etc.)

Chat

Wix video (you can sell videos from within wix)

Insert youTube/Vimeo videoss

Events and Forums

Slideshows

Lightboxes (one of my favorites) Pop up on a timer or via button

Mobile ready

Reservations

Facebook store integration

And this list could go on and on and on....
